Among all the bed types that exist in the world right now, there is only one type of bed that I really find very special. And that is the ever-famous bunk bed. It is the only bed in the world that makes use of vertical space. For those who have not seen or heard of a bunk bed, the brief definition of a bunk bed would be a bed that has a top bunk and a lower bunk all in one frame. It has multiple variations in design. There are three layer bunk beds, loft beds, trundle bunk beds, and even children’s bunk beds with storage. They are all categorized as bunk beds in general.
What Makes Bunk Beds Special
The reason why bunk beds are so special is their ability to save so much space. Not only that they can also have features such as storage, desks, and so on. And there isn’t a bed out there that appeals to children’s imagination like how the bunk bed does. It helps children develop camaraderie among siblings without having to fight in the night with regards to space or blanket issues. Also, bunk beds provide children a sense of security symbolized by the roof like top bunk.
Bunk Beds versus other Bed Types
There are other types of beds in the market that also save space. However, since none of them makes use of the vertical space like the bunk bed, none of them can measure up to the bunk bed’s space saving capability. But we can compare them to the bunk bed one by one. First up we have the trundle bed. The trundle bed it a pull-out type bed which is relatively harder to change sheets than the bunk bed. The second type of bed is the sofa bed. Sofa beds can transform from being a sofa into being a bed. However, I have sanitary issues with regards to sleeping where people sit very often. Imagine where they have sat all this time. Third, we have the futon. It’s basically a roll out type of bed similar to a sleeping bag. It is from Japanese culture.
Again, the floors of Japanese households are very clean because of the habits they have from their culture, unlike in most parts of the world. So, unless you have a clean bedroom floor, I wouldn’t suggest getting a futon anytime soon over a bunk bed, unless your in a very strict budget. Lastly, we have blow-up mattresses. There are actually a lot of luxury blow up mattresses in the market that feel good to sleep on, but if yo want to save space with them, you’ll have to deflate and inflate them over and over again every time you want to use the space for something else.
Nothing Beats Bunk Beds over Economy of Space
Nothing beats bunk beds when it comes to space economy, but the price to pay for bunk beds are their bulkiness and lesser portability, not to mention their fame for being risky. But with the right safety precautions, accidents relating to bunk beds seldom occur.
