How Touch Screen Laptops Can Help Developmentally Disabled Children

Touch screen laptops can be of enormous use when teaching developmentally challenged children.  For many years I worked in the special education department of our school district and always wished that there was something like a touchscreen laptop for the children to use.  This was several years ago before touchscreen laptops or touch screen computers were even being manufactured.  When working with these young children, I constantly was thinking to myself how much touch screen laptop computers to help them.  Now that touch screen laptops are here and affordable, there are many applications that can be used to help developmentally disabled children learn more easily.

One of the challenges that many disabled children have is that they are not able to effectively use a keyboard or a computer mouse.  Because they can’t effectively use either one of these devices, computers are of little use to them and they are missing out on a huge opportunity to learn.  Computer programs are extremely useful in teaching children of all ages and all intelligence levels.  Touch screen laptops make it possible for disabled children to use these computer programs to aid in their learning process.  Instead of needing to navigate through the computer programs with a keyboard or mouse, they can easily touch icons on the screen.

The advent of touch screen laptops has effectively changed the way disabled children can be taught.  There are many more software applications available than ever before and now that touch screen computers have been invented.  When dealing with disabled children, you have to teach at a level that they are able to understand the subject matter.  Touch screen laptops enable you to cater your particular lessons specifically to an individual child.  One of the best things about touch screen laptops when teaching developmentally disabled children is that the computer programs used are often much more interactive and colorful than simple books would be.  These computer programs capture the attention and imagination of disabled children and help them become more engaged in the learning process.
